Summary: We are seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer to oversee our organization’s ongoing operations and procedures. As a key member of the Senior Management team, you will have to maintain control of the diverse business operations outlined below, so we expect you to be an experienced and efficient leader. The goal of the COO position is to secure the functionality of the business to drive extensive and sustainable growth.
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) provides leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure that the Bank has the proper operational controls, and administrative and reporting procedures in place to effectively ensure financial strength and operating efficiency. This position is responsible for leading and managing the operations of BSA / AML Compliance, Deposit Operations/Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), Electronic Payment Services (EPS), EDP operation, and Information Technology teams.
- Day-to-day management responsibilities for the above-referenced teams.
- Conducts performance management and career development processes, and staffing and disciplinary actions.
- Direct interaction with committees and/or Senior Management.
- Organizes the work of the team, assigns tasks, sets short-term priorities, monitors all activities, and ensures timely and accurate completion of the work.
- Possesses the leadership and organizational skills required to prioritize assignments and provide feedback to staff.
- Provides input and support for the budget management process.
- Manages own workload/projects.
- Ensures sufficient coverage that all tasks are maintained in the team, including identifying and training partners as necessary.
- Championing strategies to steer the company’s future in a positive direction.
- Controlling company costs, and introducing tactical initiatives to increase efficiency.
- Monitoring invoices associated with bank-owned processes.
- Delegating responsibilities to ensure team members grow as capable participants.
- Employing various initiatives to coach employees to optimize their capabilities.
- Assessing and implementing improved processes and new technologies, and collaborating with management regarding the implementation of these improvements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for working closely with the President/CEO and other senior management members to prepare and achieve strategic business initiatives, overseeing all bank operation policies, processes, and procedures to ensure the risk management program aligns with the overall bank operation risk.
- Understands key operational controls needed for FDICIA compliance as the bank approaches $1B in assets.
- Leads and maintains a strong relationship with managed teams to ensure the delivery of exemplary customer service while ensuring compliance with bank policies and procedures.
- Implement and/or maintain processes to support banking operations, establish appropriate systems for measuring all aspects of operational management and ensure full compliance with industry regulations.
- Establish first-line contact with examiners and auditors while ensuring delivery and accuracy of data for all audits, including responding to internal/external audit inquiries in a timely manner.
- Oversee Information Technology and EDP operation teams for all operational systems, core banking, and related banking applications of their releases and updates.
- Responsible for working closely with BSA/AML Officer for the establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of internal controls and compliance of board policies, state statutes, and government regulations, especially adhering to regulatory guidance with federal and state laws.
- Resolve outstanding issues identified by the federal and state regulators.
- Proactively manage teams to meet bank objectives, including coaching, mentoring, development, and candid assessments of staff.
- Proven record of exceeding in a changing environment and an ability to lead new and complex initiatives for a growing financial institution.
- Demonstrated ethical leadership experience.
- Outstanding verbal and written skills, and experience working with staff on all levels.
- Ability to make short-term (three years) business projections.

Qualifications:
- MA or BA degree in Business Administration or Finance is required.
- 10 years prior experience in banking operations, including duties and responsibilities as a COO.
- In-depth familiarity/knowledge of different business functions such as BSA-AML, Deposit Operations, Electronic Funds Transfers, Electronic Payment Services, and Information Technology/Business Infrastructure/End of Day Processing.
- Ability to interact professionally and tactfully with employees at all levels within the organization, board of directors, and federal and state regulators.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills are required, including presentations and written reports.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Exceptional ability to build relationships and rapport across the organizational structure.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word).
- Some travel within the branch network will be required.
