The Manager of Inventory Accounting and Control is responsible for the oversight and management of multiple facets of inventory control and the accounts payable trade and freight payable teams. This includes but is not limited to maintaining a strong internal control environment, maintaining accuracy of the physical inventory and providing insight of inventory and COGS. This position requires excellent analytical skills, experience in the retail method of accounting and inventory management and the ability to perform at high levels in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Provide leadership and guidance for maintaining records of inventory and location of merchandise and goods in the distribution centers and store locations
Oversee the annual physical inventory and cycle count processes for the store locations.
Oversee an inventory payables team to assist in the 3-way match process, investigate inventory discrepancies, reach out to vendors as needed, help ensure timely payments for products.
Establish, implement and document policies and procedures related to inventory.
Work with our internal teams including Loss Prevention, Distribution Centers, and Store Operations to reduce shrink
Provide detailed analysis and reporting to understand shrink results and drivers. Identify root cause of shrink and implement reporting and process to actively monitor key indicators of performance, that lead to shrink.
Act as a liaison between the company and third-party inventory vendors to ensure proper service is provided to the company for the inventory process.
Oversee, the payables process for all inventory and freight vendors to ensure accuracy of inventory received and payments needed.
Perform month-end accounting activities, including preparing, reviewing and analyzing all inventory related entries to the ledger and financial statements to provide accurate inventory valuation and reporting.
Ensure practices are in place to prepare and maintain schedules and supporting documentation needed for management, internal and external reporting, external auditors, and SOX requirements
Be the main point of contact for the auditors related to all inventory requests.
Prepares schedules and analysis required for external audit.
Ad hoc analysis related to inventory and COGS fluctuations.
Reconcile monthly statements and related transactions.
Monitory, create and comply with internal controls.
Provide feedback on inventory readiness and results to management.
Complete any additional responsibilities and/or duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
Minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience working in Accounting.
Retail and inventory experience preferred.
Ability to work effectively in a professional environment.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Expert level knowledge of excel.
Experience with JDA and/or AS400 Systems preferred
Knowledge of the Retail Accounting Method of accounting for Inventory preferred
Retail Stock Ledger experience preferred
Strong analytical skills with financial data.
Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks and activities and work within strict timeframes and deadlines.
Physical ability to sit for extended periods and work at a computer.
Duties frequently involve repetitive motions of typing, filling envelopes and filing.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and Word.
Ability to remain in a normal seated position regularly.
Ability to see, hear, and speak regularly.
Ability to grip, reach, and pinch with arms and hands frequently.
Ability to bend and twist occasionally.
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
