The various tasks, duties, and responsibilities of the Bank Compliance Officer are as follows:
Monitor, develop and implement compliance management system required to operate within acceptable standards
Work with senior management team to ensure proper implementation of established compliance policies
Review and revise internal bank policies to ensure they align with external banking regulations
Continually research to identify new regulations passed by state or federal governing bodies
Monitor client financial activities to ensure they are legal and in compliance with internal and external bank policies
Collaborate with other areas of the bank to conduct internal audits and monitor compliance issues
Initiate or recommend an investigative process in response to complaints of policy or procedural violation
Develop systems for the handling the resolution of policy violation
Conduct internal audits prior to an external audit to ensure bank policies and operations are up to standard
Monitor the operations and procedures of the different areas of the bank to ensure overall compliance
Assess and identify areas of potential compliance risks in order to implement preventive/corrective strategies
Provide reports on a regular basis to senior management regarding the progress of compliance operations
Organize compliance programs to educate bank staff on recent and already existing compliance requirements
Continually participate in educational seminars, conferences, and workshops to improve job knowledge
Work with external bank auditors by compiling information and reports needed for audit preparation
Requirements – Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
Education and Training: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, law, economics, or a related business discipline. Prior experience in banking or financial management is required for the position.
Accounting Skill: Possess the ability to analyze financial records to identify inconsistencies in accounts.
Communication Skill: Must be able to interact with bank staff to communicate compliance requirements.
IT Skills: Proficient in the use of risk management tools and systems to analyze the degree of compliance with external regulations.
