Summary: Analyzes and evaluates residential loan applications in accordance with industry standards. Gathers and interprets all types of credit information for existing and prospective retail banking customers in order to maximize credit and minimize risk and potential loss.
Must have Direct Endorsement designation to underwrite FHA loans
Two – four years underwriting experience which includes Jumbo, FHA, VA, and USDA Loans.
Must have manual underwriting experience, as well as experience with DU and LP automated underwriting systems
Thorough understanding of residential appraisals.
Possess professional judgment, ability to accept responsibility and handle confidential customer information.
Problem solver, researcher, and decision maker.
Willing to work overtime, when needed, to maintain an acceptable response time to our production staff, as outlined by manager.
Excellent communication skills – phone, personal contact and written.
Maintain effective communication and working relationship with manager, co-workers, branches, home office departments, and correspondents.
Able to work as part of a team, as well as independently, and with people of diverse backgrounds.
Must be a self-starter, dependable, accurate in completing responsibilities in a timely manner with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Professional in standards, skills and manner of dealing with others.
Able to accept and facilitate change whether indicated by corporate needs, market, or regulatory requirements.
Basic computer skills and a strong familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and loan origination systems is required.
Complete a thorough analysis of moderate to complex first- and second-lien loan packages to determine compliance with company and investor guidelines.
Complete qualifying income calculations including the analysis of tax returns and financial information.
Complete detailed loan summaries in order to document the risk evaluation process and mitigate risk factors on exception requests.
Work with Production and Processing staff to find alternate loan and documentation solutions when appropriate
Communicate all loan decisions with Production and Processing staff, and assist internal partners with questions relating to specific loan files, or guideline interpretations.
Remain organized and adaptable to customer needs.
Ensure daily production goals are met.
Understand and maintain a thorough knowledge of all company, investor, correspondent programs and regulatory requirements.
Assume additional duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
