Receives loan files purchased and originated by the financial institution and reviews files for all necessary forms and information according to FNMA and FHLMC underwriting guidelines.
Analyzes applicant’s financial status, credit and property evaluation to determine feasibility of granting a loan. Submits application to credit analyst for verification and recommendation.
Makes an underwriting decision for each loan.
Confers with loan officer to aid in resolving mortgage and consumer loan application issues.
Communicates with outside mortgage firms, financial institution mortgage loan officers and customer of the financial institution to underwrite files properly.
Keeps informed of current underwriting practices and assists in updating the financial institution’s underwriting policies.
Analyzes potential loan markets to develop prospects for loans.
Responsible for audits of loan files prior to and after funding is obtained.
Assists loan serviced department in maintenance of loan files, including payoffs, changes of ownership and transfers.
Works with the accounting department in obtaining funding for loan files.
Prepares records and reports as requested regarding loan file activity.
Conducts daily operation in accordance with the laws, regulation, policies, procedure, and expectations of the Bank. Compliance will be recognized as part of the period performance review; noncompliance may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, or equivalent work experience.
Knowledge of basic lending and underwriting policies and procedures, including guidelines issued by FNMA and FHLMC
Three to five years previous lending experience, including at least three years actual underwriting experience
Knowledge of current lending rates on various loan options.
Skill in assess quality of loans purchased and originated by the financial institution.
Superior analytical thinking and mathematical skills.
Good oral and written communication skills
