Oversees general ledger, financial statements, budgets and forecasts by preparing and reviewing internal financial statements and workpapers, resolving discrepancies and analyzing financial information on financial statements.
Makes recommendations regarding accounting issues and submits recommendations for improving the organization's accounting operation.
Trains and mentors staff accountants.
Prepares and reviews NAIC quarterly and annual statements, and ensures compliance with Statutory Accounting Principles.
Meets regulatory deadlines with the state insurance departments while overseeing staff accountant's regulatory duties.
Prepares company's budget and interprets current and forecasted/budgeted company financial position results.
Collects appropriate data and assists in the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns.
Prepares and reviews reinsurance reporting.
Answers auditors questions and gathers required information.
Gathers loss reserve / premium data for independent actuarial consultant for rate study, semi-annual and annual reserves studies and quarterly benchmarking.
Researches and documents new SSAPs, EITFs and FASBs
Documents departmental policies, procedures and internal controls
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
